In INDIA, kite flying is the symbol of happiness. In India, kites are flown on the occasion of festival. The kite flying festival in India falls on 14th of January every year, marking the arrival of spring and the transition of the sun into the Makara Rashi (the Capricorn zodiac sign). In quite a few states in India, Makar Sankranti is considered as a major harvest festival. Although it is illegal.


You will be surprised to hear that kite flying is a legal offense in India. if anyone violates this law, they will be jailed for 2 years and can be fined up to Rs 10 lakh. If you want to fly kite ,you need to take a permission to fly kite.

DEFINITION OF THE AIRCRAFT ACT,1934
"aircraft" means any machine which can derive support in the atmosphere from reactions of the air, 7[other than reactions of the air against the earth's surface] and includes balloons whether fixed or free, airships, kites, gliders and flying machines;
COUNTRIES WHICH BANNED KITE FLYING
Kite flying was banned in China during the Cultural Revolution, anyone found flying a kite was sent to jail for up to three years and their kites destroyed. There are 78 rules in kite fighting in Thailand. Kite flying was banned in Japan in 1760 because too many people preferred to fly kites than work.
